Native American Heritage Month

National Native American Heritage Month

November is a month set aside to celebrate the lives and culture of the continent’s First Peoples, who tended to this land long before the first years of European colonization and continue to be its stewards to this day. As a library, we are using this month to spotlight books by Native American and First Nation creators, as well as books highlighting Indigenous history, geography, culture, and social movements. Browse below for lists organized by audience, and let us know if you have any to add!

Land Acknowledgement

The Medfield Public Library honors the Native and Indigenous peoples on whose land our community sits: the Pokanoket, Massa-adchu-es-et (Massachusett), and the Wôpanâak (Wampanoag).

Acknowledging Native lands is an important step in recognizing Indigenous culture, heritage, history, and relationships with the land, while advancing public understanding of the role of colonialism. You can learn more about Native lands at https:native-land.ca.
